FCC-mandated technical changes - known as "narrowbanding" - adopted in
December 2004, become effective January 1, 2013 - just
under 5 years from now.
These changes apply to all U.S. business, educational, industrial,
local and state government, and Public Safety FCC Part 90 licensees
operating legacy "wideband" (25 KHz) voice and data radio systems in
the 150-174 MHz (VHF) and 421-512 MHz (UHF) bands.
